First results of a wave investigation program in the Outer Weser (German Bight of the North Sea) point out, that under storm conditions higher waves than computed by the normal prediction methods are possible in the exterior estuary. In the interior estuary higher waves occur mainly as a sort of swell. The influence of bad weather conditions on the probability of runs of waves with H*> H 1/3 is shown in two examples in comparison with a theoretical investigation.
