The current paper presents a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) for indirectfield-oriented Cascaded Doubly Fed Induction Generator (CDFIG) powered througha Matrix Converter (MC). The proposed SMC employs a continuous control strategyto accomplish free chattering fractional-order sliding-mode control and toensure that the control of the first DFIG stator's reactive and active power isseparated. An MC is used to control the current provided to the second statorof the CDFIG as an alternative to standard voltage source inverters. The twoMCs are controlled via Space-Vector Pulse-Width Modulation (SVPWM) and IndirectField Oriented Control (IFOC). The proposed Wind Power Generation System (WPGS)is used with the purpose to ensure Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) sensingunder various disturbance variables such as turbulent wind. The simulationresults prove the efficiency and robustness of the proposed method.
