A method using gas‐liquid chromatography was developed to analyze the total fatty acid composition of animals having carbonate skeletons and used to determine the fatty acids in a scleractinian coral and a milleporine coral. The major acid in both samples is palmitic acid, and marine‐type polyunsaturated fatty acids were not detectable in either type of coral.
