PD 06001 (Reg. No. GP‐994, PI 674430) and PD 06078 (Reg. No. GP‐995, PI 674431) are noncommercial breeding lines of cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum L.) jointly released by the USDA‐ARS, the Clemson University Experiment Station, and Cotton Incorporated in 2014. PD 06001 is a breeding line selected from a cross of PD 93007 and ‘Sure‐Grow 180’. PD 06078 is a breeding line selected from a cross of PD 94042 and ‘Sure‐Grow 105’. PD 06001 and PD 06078 possess broad adaptation and display outstanding fiber quality properties significantly better than several commercial cultivars. Specifically, PD 06001 and PD 06078 possess outstanding fiber length and strength potential while displaying excellent fiber spinning characteristics superior to commercial cultivars. PD 06001 and PD 06078 display full season maturity and produce lint yields similar to or better than commercial cultivars. PD 06001 and PD 06078 are broadly adapted across the US upland cotton production region. The combination of high yield potential, excellent fiber quality, and superior fiber spinning performance make PD 06001 and PD 06078 valuable genetic resources to cotton breeding programs.
