Coronary heart disease (CHD) increases in women after the menopause, and there is evidence to suggest that estrogen‐deficiency may have impact on the cardiovascular risk. Lipid and lipoprotein profiles are important cardiovascular risk factors, and the possibility has been advanced that the loss of relative cardioprotection at the menopause might be mediated through an effect on lipids and lipoproteins.
