In this study peculiarities of distribution difficulties of Salicornia perennans Willd were studied, and ways to promote wide practical use as an alternative source of salt were outlined.  Being a halophyte, Salicornia perennans Willd grows on salty soils of the Caspian region of Astrakhan. Not inferior in taste characteristics of edible salt, Salicornia contains a whole range of biologically active substances. Taking into account the wide prevalence of hypertension in the modern world, it is important to control the consumption of table salt. The study of plants of this kind is promising as a possible prevention of high blood pressure syndrome due to alternative substitution of table salt with Salicornia. Data on distribution are generalized and taxonomic difficulties of plants of the genus Salicornia impeding the generally accepted classification of the unique species are analyzed. The data obtained will allow unifying the further study of Salicornia perennans Willd growing in the Astrakhan region with the prospect of cultivation and creation on its basis of a food product that replaces edible salt
