This article discusses how the SardarSarovar dam in lndia is a case of a developmentproject which causes environmentaldisplacement on a massive scale.This occurs through evictions and indirectlythrough the impairment of livelihoodsby environmental changes. Theproblems of resettlement and rehabilitationare emphasized in the article as arefurther displacement efects due to thisprocess. The inequality between developmentbeneficiaries and those whomust bear the majority of the developmentcosts is also addressed.
