Abstract We propose a method for quasi‐impulsive driving of a homogeneous‐aligned liquid crystal cell by using 3‐electode structure. At the beginning of every frame, liquid crystals are momentarily vertical‐aligned, followed by twist deformation to show a bright state, by which gray to gray as well as turn‐on and turn‐off responses can be improved. In comparison with conventional driving scheme applicable to 2‐electrode cells, we demonstrate by experiment that a liquid crystal cell with the 3‐electrode structure can be operated as an impulsive‐type display by the proposed method.
