Abstract A new model for understanding luminance‐time characteristics of blue‐emitting SrS based a.c. thin film electroluminescent (ACTFEL) display devices was developed. It included (a) field‐dependence of the capture of conduction electrons by ionized activators and (b) field‐dependence of the relaxation of activators. Experiments involving a “dented” voltage waveforms were performed to evaluate the theoretical model.
