Abstract We have developed a polymer stabilized electrically controlled birefringence (ECB) transreflective liquid crystal display (LCD). The pixels for transmissive mode are stabilized in a high birefringence state while the pixels for reflective mode are stabilized in a low birefringence state by polymer networks. The transmissive and reflective pixels have similar voltage‐light intensity dependence. The polymer stabilization technique can be easily implemented in manufacturing.
