Resumo: O presente artigo objetiva refletir os processos de tradução cultural estabelecidos entre os membros da Companhia de Jesus com relação às populações indígenas das missões de Maynas, Mojos e Chiquitos no decorrer do século XVIII, por meio de uma análise das crônicas de três missionários inacianos: Pe. Francisco J. Eder, Pe. Pablo Maroni e Pe. Juan P. Fernández. Adotamos como paradigma indicial o código religião e centramo-nos na análise dos discursos jesuítas referentes à figura do Demônio nas reduções jesuíticas. Abstract: The following paper will assess the cultural translation process established by the Society of Jesus members in relation to the indigenous peoples of the Maynas, Mojos and Chiquitos missions through the XVIIIth century by analyzing the chronicles of three Jesuit missionaries: Priest Francisco J. Eder, Priest Pablo Maroni and Priest Juan P. Fernández. In the chronicles analysis we have favored the notion of the missionary understanding of religion, focusing our considerations on the Jesuit discourses about the devil’s role in the Jesuit missions.
