The need for a more sustainable lifestyle is a key focus for severalcountries. Using a questionnaire survey conducted in Hungary, this paperexamines how culture influences environmentally conscious behaviour. Havinginvestigated the direct impact of Hofstedes cultural dimensions onpro-environmental behaviour, we found that the culture of a country hardlyaffects actual environmentally conscious behaviour. The findings indicate thatonly individualism and power distance have a significant but weak negativeimpact on pro-environmental behaviour. Based on the findings, we can state thata positive change in culture is a necessary but not sufficient condition formaking a country greener.
