The article is based on the concept of “innovation improvements” SINIC of K. Tateisi. Perspective ways of development for Russian automotive industry are determined. The role of the innovation system as the main factor of sustainable competitiveness of the automotive industry is revealed. The article emphasizes the special role of government at the new stage of human development - transition to the economy of knowledge, society of knowledge, economy of innovations.
