This is a descriptive account by a black anthropologist of observations in some Pittsburgh ghetto schools. It illustrates variations in life‐styles and in educational milieu. The paper describes some of the impacts of these on the educational experiences of the students. The author discusses the possible pedagogical incorporations of the subcultural variations as one approach to learning experiences in these ghetto public schools.
