Internal visual testing (VT) indications were detected by a casting supplier in the development phase of a new turbine blade type. It was determined that the peculiar surface indications were caused by a phenomenon called  hafnium wrinkling . Both past experience, and modern characterization methods were used to determine the cause of the indications.
