This article provides some guidelines to personnel managers who may be experiencing problems with the on‐going maintenance of job evaluation in their organisations. It defines job evaluation and enumerates its benefits. It provides suggested maintenance procedures which include — staff communication; job analysis and the gathering of information for evaluation purposes; the committee system of evaluation and how it operates; and the role of the evaluation co‐ordinator.
