The demand for experienced and qualified mining specialists far exceeds supply, and this is creating problems both in the management of operations and mining developments. It is thus necessary when devising organisations to attempt to minimise the need for additional mining specialists. An approach that meets this objective is to centralise as far as possible the technical and planning functions, leaving only relatively junior specialists with a particular operation or development.
