The structural specificity required for induction of germination of spores ofBacillus stearothermophilus by analogues of dipicolinate in buffer at pH 5.5 is similar to that found previously with spores ofBacillus megaterium and calcium chelate salts at pH 8. 4H -pyran-2,6-dicarboxylate, but no other analogue tested, is as effective as dipicolinate di-anion.
