This study focuses on the relationship between party platforms and presidential performance in making public policies. The research of Gerald Pomper among others indicates that in a majority of cases, presidents fulfill party promises made in the platforms presented at the national conventions. The study reported here builds upon this previous work and investigates one aspect of the party platform/presidential action relationship—namely, the extent to which presidents carry out the promises made by their party about social issues.
