Electronic books (or ‘e‐books’) promise to marry the advantages of an electronic format with the portability and flexible annotation of a traditional book. E‐books offer several advantages, but scholars may hesitate to adopt the technology until software designers and content providers address e‐books’ current shortcomings in functionality and availability.
