‘Oh, what happened to you, Whatever happened to me. What became of the people we used to be?' † Summary A study is made of the post‐graduate careers of the 106 medical graduates of the University of Edinburgh who, during the period 1869‐1969, were awarded (or shared) the Ettles scholarship for the most distinguished medical graduate of the year. It is noted that the receipt of this award does not always provide a reliable predictor of subsequent academic or professional distinction.
