A direct method of obtaining strain profiles immediately from X‐ray rocking curves is considered. The method is based on a discrete kinematical diffraction model and a rocking‐curve Fourier‐coefficient analysis. It is applied to the analysis of graded heterostructures and superlattices. Instrumental broadening can be easily incorporated.
