The self-healing coating on the copper alloy surface was prepared by adding inhibitor loaded composite nanoparticles into alkyd varnish coating with a content of 4 wt.%. The self-healing performance of the scratched coating immersed in 3.5% NaCl solution was evaluated by morphology observation, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and scanning Kelvin probe. It has been proved that the scratched coating containing the composite nanoparticles can be self-healed with the formation of the inhibitive film at the coating crevice during the immersion.
