It is widely acknowledged that skylight matters a great deal to an automobile. The development of automobile and glass intelligentization allows the functions of skylight to be integrated, intelligentized and diversified. At present, however, there are few studies on skylight gesture interaction, which explains why we decided to conduct this study. By building a psychological model and using qualitative techniques, we acquired data from 20 young Chinese drivers to delve into their gesture interaction preferences, needs and pain points. In the end, we posited a set of design criteria: simplified learning procedure, exact meaning, precise feedback, optimum control, habitual use and system integrity. Overall, our design involves 17 gesture actions suitable for automobile skylight, with 11 maneuverable gesture actions passing the usability test. The qualified actions constitute the basis of skylight interactive gesture design.
