A new method aimed at differentiating air vertical motion and raindrop terminal velocity in a velocity spectrum observed at vertical incidence identification based on Mie backscattering oscillations occurring within the raindrop size range at the 3.2 mm wavelength. The method is applicable to measurement of downdraft or microburst in rainshafts and dropsize distribution in all types of rain.
