Estimating the confidence interval of a variable or an aggregate of any type of variables is an essential part of scientific activity. It is equally important to ensure that the appropriate, correct statistical measure is used. I discovered inaccuracies in the derivation of a one‐norm misfit measure widely used in geophysics and show the exact derivation.
