between free and constrained path models (CPM) across age groups, and also with the delta method. Results: Maternal education, through its effect on participant’s education, had a significant indirect effect on memory and executive functions in middle-aged and older participants (Table 1). The mediated model revealed also a significant direct effect of maternal education on cognitive outcomes, showing that this effect is not complete mediated by participant’s education. CPM indicated that the effect of maternal education was different between age groups, and also cognitive domains were not influenced in the sameway (Table 2). Delta analysis revealed a significant but small difference in indirect effects for each cognitive domain across age groups. Conclusions: Maternal education had a direct and indirect effect on cognitive performance in middle-aged and older Brazilian adults, suggesting that early life socioeconomic environment may directly influence late and midlife cognitive outcomes. The effect of maternal education was greater for executive function, suggesting that this domain may be more affected by early life conditions.
