Abstract The major hydrocarbons found in the surface lipids of the cockroaches Leucophaea maderae and Blatta orientalis have been identified as n ‐heptacosane, 11‐methylheptacosane, 13‐methylheptacosane and 3‐methylheptacosane. The hydrocarbons from the two genera of cockroaches are qualitatively identical and quantitatively similar.
