Abstract It is shown that objective rates of objective and symmetric second order Eulerian tensors should be corotational when one restricts to a single Euclidean vector space. As a consequence, when we equalize the objective strain rate and the deformation rate, only the Hencky strain is a mathematically consistent strain measure; and only the logarithmic rate is an admissible strain rate.
