Abstract It has been shown that the constancy of the ratios −U o /T m and −U o T b , reported earlier among the members of some similar inorganic solids, can be extended to the frozen inert gases Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe provided account is taken of the residual vibrational energy, retained by the solids at the absolute zero due to quantum effects. This energy becomes quite comparable to the lattice energy −U o in these cases and hence can not be ignored.
