In this paper, we report a large‐area optical switch using deformable liquid droplet. The deformation is produced by the electrowetting on dielectric (EWOD) phenomenon. Our device provides a high optical attenuation (~660:1). The open time and close time are measured to be ~60ms, and ~100ms, respectively. The proposed optical switch has potential applications in variable optical attenuators, optical fiber communications, and displays.
