Host–guest chemistry in the gas phase. Complexes of crown ethers with Fe(CO) n + ions

The complexes formed between a series of 19 different crown ethers and Fe(CO)   n +ions are described. It is found that the energy released in the reactions increases with the crown ether ring size. The bicyclic‐ring crown ethers can form sandwich type compounds with the reagent.
