Abstract The expansion for r −2 12claimed by Lüchow and Kleindienst to be “new” is shown to be algebraically identical to that reported some years previously by Pauli and Kleindienst but with the coefficients of the expansion brought to a far more convenient form. The demonstration presented here also reveals some previously unreported relationships connecting these coefficients. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2004
