Abstract The possibility of various types of pairing arrangements is examined in a one‐dimensional system in which the effective interparticle interaction of Coulomb type is evaluated in the plasmon‐pole approximation. The insulating state arising from the particle‐hole pairing arrangement appears to dominate strongly over the superconductive effects. The dependence of the transition temperature on the band width is calculated for a set of typical parameter values with the help of the derived integral equation which formally coincides with the well‐known equation of the theory of superconductivity.
