Abstract The interaction of the photoelectrons with the sound waves in the long wavelength region in semiconductors is considered using the classical continuum model for the lattice motion together with the kinetic equation in the relaxation time approximation describing the electron subsystem. Currents and fields arising in the sample are calculated. An de electric field due to the deviation of the electron distribution function from the equilibrium exponential form under the action of a light wave (and in the presence of a magnetic field) is revealed that is absent in the short wavelength limit. The possibility of an experimental observation of this effect is discussed.
