Abstract The quasielastic and inelastic scattering functions of neutrons which interact with local and extended vibrations around kink‐like lattice displacement are examined within the φ 4 ‐theory. The polaronic renormalization of the kink mass and explicit expressions for the scattering functions are obtained.
