Abstract A phenomenological model involving two kinds of self‐consistent interaction fields is shown to simulate the “re‐entrant” magnetic behaviour (i.e., mixed ferromagnetic and spin glass‐like ordering). Besides the Weiss field, it postulates fields of random directions and magnitude proportional to the mean absolute value of the local magnetic moment. Simple qualitative results are discussed and numerical results are compared with recent experiments on amorphous Fe 8 Ni 72 P 10 B 10 alloys.
