Material constants of composites. I. General theory for the dielectric constant

The classical problem of the determination of an effective dielectric constant for composites is reconsidered. It is shown that the usually applied effective medium approach of Bruggeman violates a fundamental requirement, called additivity in this work. A new expression is proposed, which does not show this deficiency.
