The effective screening function in Si, Ge, and GaAs and the effects of exchange

Calculations are reported of the effective dielectric function for screening a pseudopotential in Si, Ge, and GaAs. The effects of exchange are also investigated by numerical calculations and an interpolation formula is given which fits the computed values. Screening the exchange interaction results in very small corrections to the effective dielectric function.
