Abstract The phonon Green functions are presented for solid argon, krypton, and xenon. The Green functions are computed by studying the lattice dynamics of these solids, using the Kihara hard core potential. A set of potential parameters fitted to neutron data is used in the computation. The localized mode due to neon in argon is studied as an example of the use of these Green functions in defect problems.
