Abstract The theoretical predictions of electron microscope images of dislocations in anisotropic crystals described previously are extended to identify other dislocations in β‐brass. Many dislocations having sharp bends are observed. Their Burgers vectors are 〈111〉 and their crystallography agrees well with the predicted instability of such dislocations. Dislocations of Burgers vector 〈100〉 have also been identified, lying on both {100} and {110} planes. Some dislocations with Burgers vectors 〈111〉 can be shown to be split into two ½ 〈111〉 dislocations with an ordering energy of ≈ 40 erg/cm 2 .
