Abstract The characterization of the concave crystal shapes obtained during precipitation in a well mixed reactor of alkaline earth and transition metal oxalates by means of a morphological spectral analysis method is proposed. The method is based on series of openings performed on the crystal outline and on its complement with respect to its convex hull. Four parameters are used to describe and classify the shapes. The method can be applied to any concave shape.
