Abstract A conformal mapping analysis of the mold filling behavior in rectangular cavities is developed. The polymer melt is assumed to behave as a purely viscous Generalized Newtonian Fluid. The shape of the advancing flow front, the pressure distribution in the mold cavity, streamlines, constant temperature lines, and the required filling time may be readily determined using the techniques described. The theoretical results are in good agreement with experimental data previously reported in the literature.
