Abstract This work is concerned with the fluid flow in a special fully and partially filled 2D‐extruder model with a double flighted single‐screw and twin‐screw geometry. A shear‐thinning highly viscous silicone oil is used as model substance. The results of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements are compared with numerical simulations.
