Abstract A novel wavelength division multiplexing/demultiplexing (WDM) system using acousto‐optic Bragg cell is presented. The system is adaptable for any wavelength deviation of light sources caused by temperature changes and allows changing the operating wavelengths over a wide range. High diffraction efficiency, high resolution, and a large number of channels are obtained. Computer simulation for a five‐channel system in the 0.8‐μm region is presented. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
