Abstract An improved Born inversion for microwave imaging of lossless dielectric cylinder is suggested. It extends the validity of the first‐order Born approximation for the reconstruction about 10 times in the multiplication of the size of the object and the square root of the relative dielectric constant minus one. The reconstructed image using the conventional Born and the improved Born are compared and shown. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
