Analysis and design of a planar balun

The analysis and design of a planar balun is presented. The balun consists of three closely placed parallel metallic strips situated on a dielectric substrate. The effective dielectric constants and characteristic impedances for the three independent propagating modes supported by the structure are obtained using the spectral domain approach. Design information is extracted from a three‐port admittance matrix derived in terms of these modes.
