ABSTRACT A compact microstrip tri‐band bandpass filter using multimode stubs loaded resonator is proposed in this article. The characteristics of the multimode resonator are investigated by even–odd mode analysis. To sharpen the passband skirts, a source‐load coupling configuration with a nonresonant node was arranged to produce several transmission zeros. For demonstration purpose, a tri‐band filter operating at 1.89 GHz (TD‐SCDMA band), 2.45 GHz (ISM band) and 3.50 GHz (WiMAX band) is designed, fabricated, and measured. The measurements are in good agreement with the simulations. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 55:2672–2675, 2013
