The problem of the interpretation of anomalous forerunners as observed in microwave propagation experiments is re‐examined within the framework of a simpler model as compared to the one previously adopted. Furthermore, a time‐dependent analysis according to a saddle‐point procedure is developed. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
