Abstract A diamond‐shaped compact, planar ultra‐wide band (UWB) antenna with measured free‐space frequency bandwidth of 3.80 to 11.85 GHz is presented. Design features for achieving UWB with small geometrical features and antenna performance in some coupling medium have been investigated to verify the feasibility of the antenna for medical imaging applications. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
